In-house Laboratory To the VertaseFLI armoury of soil and groundwater treatment systems has recently been added the ability to undertake comprehensive research and development in the field of Stabilisation / Solidification (S/S). The Environment Agency (EA) recognise S/S as two discrete processes that are used together in order to reduce the mobility of contaminants in the soil. The S/S remediation option is often most applicable for the protection of groundwater from the particular on-site contaminants of concern. Pre-Trial Investigations
Before undertaking laboratory trials, VertaseFLI meticulously review the Consultant’s Remediation Strategy and the chemical analyses therein. The experienced chemist and technical staff choose suitable and proven combinations of cementitious, pozzolanic, hydrophilic, organophilic binders and chemical reagents to enable the contaminants of concern to be stabilised within the soil and the soil itself to be solidified. Stabilisation and Solidification Trials To determine treatment efficacy, the laboratory treated materials are subject to a variety of strength development tests and leach tests which are typically the NRA leach test for granular material and the EA NEN 7375:2004 tank based leach test for monolithic material. All treatability trials are undertaken in line with the EA’s Contaminated Land Report (CRL11). Strong ‘lines of evidence’ are obtained which culminate in a site trial prior to full scale site activities. |
