CASE STUDY: LANDFILL RECLAMATION AND RESTORATION

CASE STUDY: LANDFILL RECLAMATION AND RESTORATION
Client: BMW (UK)
Value: £820,000 (Fixed Price)
Activities: Site cleaning, stream diversion, off site disposal, earthworks, woodland planting and maintenance
Reclamation
Working in conjunction with the client’s consultant and regulators VertaseFLI has recently undertaken the remediation of an area of woodland in Leyland, Lancashire.
The works undertaken involved the excavation and removal of some 9,000 m3 of industrial waste material from a woodland and stream.
Locally sourced materials were used to reinstate the woodland and stream. Stream banks were stabilised using natural materials to prevent any further erosion.

Restoration
The site topography was sympathetically restored to the expected historical profiles of the area to create natural and diverse woodland habitats including dry woodland plateau and slope areas, wet woodland and wetlands (over 1750 trees and 5000 plants).
The Mayor of South Ribble Borough Council planted the final trees and the event was attended by local press and regulatory bodies.
