Summary VertaseFLI Limited were employed by ESI Ltd to remediate an identified plume of fuel oil contamination at a former concrete yard in Dagenham. The works undertaken by VertaseFLI included the removal of contaminated soils and the treatment of contaminated groundwater, completed within a very tight timescale to comply with the requirements of the Clients site re-development programme
Treatment Following detailed discussions with the Client it was decided that the material overlying the contaminated plume should be excavated in layers depending upon visual contamination followed by on-site groundwater treatment. The soils were excavated in layers and stockpiled for testing until the groundwater was exposed. The groundwater was then pumped through a mobile treatment plant consisting of an oil / water separator, holding tank and activated carbon vessel. The treated water was tested and used as dust suppression on the site. Disposal and Re-use Following testing, the contaminated soils were taken off-site for disposal to a licensed facility. Remediated site material together with some imported crushed concrete, was used to return the site to its original levels.
The project was completed within the Clients programme and allowed the development works to commence on time.
