CASE STUDY: FORMER SCRAP YARD AND TANNERY

CASE STUDY: FORMER SCRAP YARD AND TANNERY
Client: Barratt Bristol Limited
Value: £485,000 (Fixed Price)
Activities: Demolition, physical and biological treatment, pump and treat, off site disposal
Site History
From the initial site investigation and design of the remediation scheme through to completion of the site works VertaseFLI has been actively involved with the remediation of the former scrap yard and tannery.
As part of the remediation works an operational Waste Management License (WML) for the site had to be surrendered.  This required close liaison with the Environment Agency (EA) to ensure compliance with their requirements and protocols.

Remediation Works
Areas of elevated heavy metal and hydrocarbon contamination were excavated and soils disposed off site at suitably licensed facilities.
Contaminated groundwater entering into excavations was pre-treated on-site prior to off-site disposal.
Upon completion of the remediation works a contract completion report containing all of the results of the validation sampling which had been undertaken was submitted to the Regulators to permit the discharge of Planning Conditions and surrender of the Waste Management Licence.
