Summary The former retail station was to be redeveloped as a supermarket. The soils and groundwater surrounding the underground storage tanks and former petrol retail unit were contaminated with hydrocarbons. The works included the decommissioning, excavation and disposal of underground tanks, and remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater via an in situ dual phase extraction method (DPVE).
Scope of Works - Assisting the client’s environmental consultant in the preparation of the most cost effective remediation scheme design.
- Comprehensive liaison with the Environmental Health Department and the Environment Agency to agree a remediation strategy.
- Decommissioning and removal of underground storage tanks.
- Installation of boreholes suitable for use as gas monitoring points and DPVE wells.
- Soil vapour survey during well installation to give a real time identification of the contamination plume.
- The installation and commissioning of the DPVE system.
- Full validation works including off gas monitoring and groundwater sampling.
