CASE STUDY: FORMER ALUMINIUM CASTINGS SITE

Specification
The brief was to undertake remediation of a former Aluminium Castings located in West Bromwich, which was to be redeveloped for residential housing.
The site had been contaminated with hydrocarbons to both soils and groundwater as a result of historical operations.


Site Works 
VertaseFLI Ltd were employed to undertake the following works at the site:
  • The mobilisation to site and establishment of site compound, access, fencing and security, and acting as Principal Contractor.
  • Breaking out of concrete floor slabs, foundations and buried tanks
  • Crushing of concrete materials.
  • Preparation of a lined bioremediation treatment area.
  • Excavation, segregation, processing of hydrocarbon contaminated soils.
  • Treatment of Hydrocarbon contaminated soils to pre-agreed Risk-assessed targets.
  • Replacement of treated and validated material within the site.
  • Removal of free phase hydrocarbons (red diesel) from the water table via an in-situ Free Product recovery system.
  • Off-site disposal of grossly contaminated material and surplus material following land re-profiling

All of the works were undertaken in accordance with our Mobile Treatment Licence, and in close conjunction with the clients consultant to enable
works to be completed with minimum disruption to the client
